FAQ
1. Is a mochi-donut comparable to mochi-ice ?
Yes and no. The only common thing between mochi-donuts and mochi-ice is one of its core ingreidents : glutinous rice flour.
Mochi-donuts are shaped as a round pastry-product and mochi-ice as a small ball-shaped ice product.
2. What are the main differences between a classic yeast donut and a mochi-donut ?
- The texture of the Mochi-donut is much softer, chewy and airy compared to a classic donut. It is this very particular texture that makes it a unique product.
- The mochi-donut is significantly less greasy than a classic donut and lighter to digest.
- The mochi-donut is shaped like a "string of pearls" made up of small balls connected to each other.
3. How should mochi-donuts be stored ?
- Frozen : at – 18°C
- Unfrozen : preferably in a place with a constant temperature and controlled humidity level
4. How much time does it require to unfreeze a mochi-donut ?
Allow for 40-to 50 minutes at room temperature
5. What is the shelf-life of an unfrozen mochi-donut ?
Allow for a maximum of 48 hours. Beyond this point, the mochi-donut may become dry and lose its soft and airy texture.
6. Can I heat a frozen mochi-donut?
Yes, but we do not recommend it as it will affect the texture and make the mochi-donut very soft.
7. Can I heat a fully unfroozen mochi-donut ?
Yes, but gently.
We do not recommend reheating in the microwave as it can quickly alter the texture of the mochi-donut. However, reheating a mochi-donut in the oven (preferably with a convection setting) will create a unique texture, slightly crispy on the outside and soft and chewy on the inside.
This texture will disappear after about 40 minutes.
Note: Never reheat a decorated/glazed mochi-donut and always use hand protection to avoid burns
8. How do I decorate/top a mochi-donut ?
Like a classic donut, dip it in a topping/glazing of your choice. To make the process easier we recommend dipping the mochi-donuts about 25 minutes after removing from the freezer.
9. What are the best toppings for a mochi-donut ?
The decoration has no limit but your imagination. Sweet, salty, with ice-cream, it's up to you.
We do offer Asian-themed toppings that you can find in the "products" section of the mochidonuts.eu website.
